Replace the pink icons with the real red icons
This small userscript replaces the pink favicons by changing the path of 5 links to point back to versions of the red favicons.
So instead of removing the links to force a fallback to the default favicon, it allows you to keep access to the whole range of resolutions: normal, 32x32, 48x48, 96x96 and 144x144
In the screenshot you can see the difference between tabs when the userscript has been applied, and those where it wasn't.
