It work for me on Firefox 39.0...
But not always:
I have some trouble on different profiles - (the same than you where it keep the old Preferences popup) , but it can work.
I don't understand why you can't use it on a fresh profile ...
Seems working if you use greasemonkey version-2.3beta1:

After the script continue to work when you update greasemonkey (i test it)
Not working Firefox 39
Hello guys.. I'm having trouble getting this to work on firefox 39. I know i've mentioned this before on the other discussion but I've literally tried everything with no success on firefox 39.
I've even uninstalled firefox with only greasemonkey and the 1.7.3.1 script but still unable to save any settings in preference.
This is what i'm getting every time I install the script.
