ProtectedText.com normally shows your tabs (notes) as a horizontal row of buttons along the top of the page. When you have many tabs this gets crowded and messy. This script replaces that row with a neat vertical sidebar list that sits in the empty space to the left of the writing area.

Features:

  • Sidebar shows all your tabs as a scrollable vertical list
  • Click any tab in the sidebar to switch to it (no page reload)
  • Drag tabs up/down in the sidebar to reorder them
  • Hover over a tab to reveal an × button that deletes it
  • "+ New tab" button at the bottom adds a new tab
  • The original writing area (textarea) is completely unchanged in size
  • The original tab bar is hidden but still exists invisibly so the site keeps working normally behind the scenes
  • The ptSidebarDebug() console helper exists for troubleshooting

Note

This was written with the help of Claude AI. If you would like to see the fully commented code explaining every line, please let me know in the comments and I'll post it. The only reason I didn't include it is that it would double the size, and I wanted to keep it as minimal as possible.
