Introduction

As of 2023-12-19, Reddit introduced a new layout which has a lot of bugs, and an inferior visual layout to the point that many people consider it unusable. As of this time, you can still access the "old new" layout, which was the default layout for a couple of years until 2023-12-18. (Some people have reported seeing this layout earlier, but it seems to be rolled out as the default to everyone today.) You can access "old new" layout by going to new.reddit.com. This script redirects existing Reddit links to new.reddit.com as well as convert existing links on Reddit, to keep you in the new.reddit.com site layout while browsing Reddit.

Features and notes

  • This script automatically redirects you to new.reddit.com when you visit a page under the reddit.com or www.reddit.com domains.
  • In order to not waste time on a redirect if not necessary, existing links on Reddit are also converted to new.reddit.com. Most links in the UI already go to the same subdomain as the linking page by default, but in particular the notifications menu tends to have www.reddit.com links, and posts/comments may contain links as well.
  • If you are not logged in, going to new.reddit.com will redirect you back to www.reddit.com. Therefore, this script does not try to redirect you to new.reddit.com if you are not logged in, which would create and endless redirect loop which would prevent you from logging in.
  • It's possible that Reddit will start redirecting new.reddit.com to www.reddit.com even for logged in users in the future. In this case, please disable this script to prevent the inevitable redirect loop.
  • This is a script for redirecting to new.reddit.com, not old.reddit.com. You may want to go to old.reddit.com as an alternative viewing experience. old.reddit.com also doesn't have a redirect issue, and you can permanently enable it in the settings for your account. Therefore, pages under old.reddit.com are untouched by this script.

If you have any questions or feedback about the script, feel free to ask.
