yt-dlp Command Generator

Build ready-to-run yt-dlp commands from any video page — no memorizing flags.

A lightweight Tampermonkey userscript that adds a clean, animated panel to every website. Pick your options, and it generates a copy-paste yt-dlp command you run in your terminal. It never downloads anything itself — it just builds the command.

Features

  • Works everywhere — available on any site yt-dlp supports (YouTube, Vimeo, X/Twitter, TikTok, Facebook, Twitch, Instagram, Reddit, and thousands more).
  • Opens from the Tampermonkey menu — click the extension icon → ⬇ Open Command Generator. No clutter on the page until you need it.
  • Video quality — cap the resolution from 360p up to 8K, or pick "Best".
  • Framerate — limit to ≤30 or ≤60 fps.
  • Codec choice with guidance — H.264 (best for Facebook/WhatsApp & most apps), VP9, or AV1. H.264 automatically produces a universally compatible MP4.
  • Audio quality & MP3-only mode — extract audio to MP3, M4A, Opus, WAV, or FLAC at your chosen bitrate.
  • Clip a segment — download only the part between two timestamps, with a one-click "use current player time" button.
  • Subtitles — embed or save subs, choose languages, include auto-generated.

Getting started

  1. Install Tampermonkey and add this script.
  2. Install yt-dlp and ffmpeg locally (ffmpeg is needed for merging, clipping, and audio extraction).
  3. Open any video page → Tampermonkey menu → ⬇ Open Command Generator.
  4. Choose your options, click Copy command, and run it in your terminal.

Which codec for social media?

For Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, and most phones, choose H.264 video + AAC audio in an MP4 container — it plays virtually everywhere without re-encoding. VP9 and AV1 give smaller files but may need re-encoding for those apps (there's a one-click option for that).
