The export brings up a list, but am not sure how to keep it ... I have tried to put it in excel, copy it to word and save as a text to attempt to open it in excel? I am sure its my lack of knowledge, but could someone point me in the right direction?
The friends list is exported in JSON format so you would have to copy that and then use something like this JSON to CSV converter and save the CSV generated from this tool.
