Yes, in theory, any contributor may rewrite this JS effects to transitions effects. But around 6 years such uys are absent. ) You or anybody may add pull request to Github with base of current this code.
Instead of using only a timer, you could set it in a way that every time you hover over a new menu/option, it closes the others... Right now it gets all clunky with all of the options being allowed to be on screen. If not, where can I change this?
