Switch YouTube embed player

There are various scripts already available that supposedly allow you to force the new HTML5 player (transparent) with embedded videos, (like https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/3435-youtube-embed-tweak-html5 ) but none seem to work for me. Is there a way for a script to simply switch any embedded player being used to the new player? I know there are lots of ways to embed YouTube videos, maybe a dozen, but in my mind it should be straightforward to just substitue the player.

Hm, just tried it again and it seems to have worked, but I had to instal the earlier version to force HD.

I use On-demand Youtube embedded player to open the html5 iframe player but often/mostly shift-click to watch video entirely directly as mp4/webm. Currently it intercepts iframe and embed tags.

I guess I spoke too soon. the Embed Tweak script works on one computer but not another, though they're set up the same. Not sure what could be affecting it. I tried the script you suggest, but it's not using YouTube's new transparent HTML5 player which I really like. But it could be a good script if the default play button launched the HTML5 player, not the Flash.

It uses the new transparent player here by default. I think you need to clear youtube cookies or something which will supposedly fix the entire issue.

But it could be a good script if the default play button launched the HTML5 player, not the Flash.

Well, it actually doesn't use Flash player, it uses the default Youtube player. As for the option to play directly by default that's a good idea I guess.
