I would like to add that I have now tried it in both safari & firefox and it doesn't work in either browser, both of which are logged in.

Have you tried "Reject Service Worker" introduced on the page above?

Just tried that as when I tried it before it didn't work, this time the extension itself doesn't work in Firefox, but what does work is going into about:debugging#workers and manually unregistering the service worker

This usercript does work in Firefox to block service workers though: https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/476595-block-service-workers

If you're using macOS 10.12(or later) and Firefox 115(or later), "Reject Service Worker" extension should work.
There is also a userscript version of this(for Safari).
