Instagram Download Button

A userscript for instagram.com that adds download, open, and share buttons to posts, stories, highlights, and profile pictures. Forked from ZhiYu's Instagram_Download_Button (MIT) with UX, performance, and share-link improvements.

🌟 Key Features

  • Three buttons on every media, sitting inside Instagram's own action bar:
    • Open (⧉): opens the full-size media in a new tab.
    • Download (↓): saves the media at the highest available quality. The button spins while fetching and flashes green on success or red on failure, so you always know what happened.
    • Share (🔗): copies the post's permalink (or the story/profile URL) to your clipboard with your chosen domain — great for embed-friendly domains like ddinstagram.com or kkinstagram.com on Discord.
  • Works everywhere: feed posts, /p/ post pages, posts opened from a profile grid, reels (both the /reels/ rail and a feed post expanded into reels mode), carousels (downloads the exact slide you're viewing), stories, highlights, and profile pictures.
  • Original quality: media URLs are resolved through Instagram's own info API when possible, falling back to the page's media elements.
  • Clear labeling: every button has a tooltip and screen-reader label describing exactly what it does, and is keyboard-focusable.
  • Keyboard shortcuts: Alt+K downloads and Alt+I opens the current media.
  • Light on the page: posts are detected with a MutationObserver (no polling timer), and API lookups are cached for the session.

⚙️ Configuration

  • Share-link domain: userscript manager menu → "Set share-link domain". Options: instagram.com (default), ddinstagram.com, kkinstagram.com, or any custom domain.
  • Filename templates: editable constants at the top of the script (%id%, %datetime%, %medianame%, %postId%, %mediaIndex% placeholders, plus a datetime format template).

🚀 Installation & Usage

  1. Install: Add to Tampermonkey/Violentmonkey.
  2. Browse: Go to instagram.com — the three buttons sit inside Instagram's own action bar, sized and spaced to match its native controls: after Share on feed posts and the expanded post view, and after the bookmark on the vertical /reels/ rail. They also appear in the story header and on profile pages.
  3. Download: Click ↓ and watch it flash green when your file lands.
