Very impressed with this script. One issue I see is that the “Popular today” section in search is visible but empty, I think the whole section should be hidden. (see image)

I think this is a misunderstanding. This is not a issue with this script.
"Popular today" is a recommended list (ytd-shelf-renderer) of youtube.
It usually presents content that is not directly related to the search.
The sames includes "Latest from"," Channels new to you", "For you", "Previously watched", "People also watched", "People also search for", and in this situation just happens that the shorts in "Popular today" are all hidden.
If you want Hide this type of recommendation list, recommend you use this script/style below.
