A few days after 4.16 was deployed started getting more and more sponsored posts in feed. The other variations of posts appear to be filtered as intended but not sponsored posts. It appears FB is displaying the "Sponsored" text as SVG inside a closed shadow-root. Could not copy the relevant section from the DOM inspector but an image of that section is attached.

I've seen that technique before and had code dive into the svg's shadow-root to find out if the post a sponsored one or not.

However, v4.16 is using a different method to find Sponsored posts. I think certain script-managers might have a problem with that piece of code (not 100% sure).

Does this bug affect the news feed only?

Which browser and script-manager are you using?

I have only seen this in news feed, at least that's the only place I have seen ads appear.

Currently using Firefox (111.0) with Greasemonkey.

I can try another script manager if you think that might make a difference.

Script doesn't work in GM due to a bug in GM. Works in TM.

Currently testing a new version in GM and seems to be working Ok. If testing goes well today, will release an update in the next day or two.

I replaced Greasemonkey with Tampermonkey on one machine. Script appears to work as intended - no ads visible.

Version 4.17 has been released. Now works in GreaseMonkey.
