Adding more than one filter

New user here. How do I add a second tag filter - do I need a comma, semi-colon, etc? It works great with one (-) tag, but when I add a second I always get 0 results.

Use AO3's search syntax.

Spaces between the tags should work for multiple negations, eg: -singlewordthingyoudontwant -"multi word thing you don't want".

Thank you! I put quotes around the second one and it works. I'm not sure why since both are multi-word tags, but as long as it works.

Your first multi-word tag has no quotes? What does that look like? -paradise lost -"john milton" ??

If so I believe only the first word really counts as the negation; the lost in my example is actually a positive. So that search would return works that match all of the following:

  • exclude paradise
  • include lost
  • exclude john milton

If what you really want is

  • exclude paradise lost
  • exclude john milton

then you should put quotes around every multi-word tag, including the first one.

Oh! That makes much more sense. I understand now, thank you!
