The preload number set to 100, if one of the images in the middle fails to load completely due to slow connection or other reasons, it won't show as failed to load (sometimes it does, which is expected), but keep blinking, making the rest of the images unreadable. The manual reload image button won't work at all because there's nowhere to click on. You'll have to exit, reload the script and redownload the rest of the images.
