I figured out the issue, turns out google intentionally made youtube slower for non chromium browsers by using an obsolete api (specifically Shadow DOM v0) with the polymer theme. Nice but a little slow
Kinda lags a bit on my system, especially when clicking the player to pause/play. The thumb nail also take a few extra seconds to disappear. I also notice it hides the scroll bars for unknown reasons.
