I'm sorry to say this is no longer maintained

It was supposed to be a stopgap measure until Adblock Plus was able to do this. After nearly 3 years, that AdBlock feature parity request was rejected. I never used this script myself and now I don't even use Adblock Plus anymore.


If you use Adblock Plus, you may want to support your favorite YouTube authors by allowing ads on their channels. Unfortunately, Adblock Plus can only whitelist pages based on their URL, and YouTube video URLs don't include any information about the video's author. That's where this script comes in: this information is added to the URL in the form of a &user=… parameter so that you can create a whitelist filter in Adblock Plus.

Instructions




Firefox

  1. Presumably you already have Adblock Plus, or else you wouldn't be reading this.

  2. If you've never installed user scripts before, first get the appropriate extension for your browser.

  3. Click the Install This Script button near the top of this page, then follow the on-screen instructions.
  4. View any video from an author you want to support (e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ljWcpj8N6ws).
  5. Right-click the author's name below the video and choose Adblock Plus: toggle whitelist filter from the menu.
  6. From the text box that pops up, copy the whitelist filter to the clipboard.
  7. Click the Adblock Plus icon and choose Filter Preferences.
  8. Click the Custom Filters tab.
  9. If no filters are visible, first right-click any of the custom filter categories and choose Show/Hide Filters. Afterwards, click the Exceptions category, then the Filter Actions button, and lastly choose Paste.

  4. Visit the …/user/videos page of the author you want to support (e.g. https://www.youtube.com/user/jacksfilms/videos) and copy the user name portion of the URL to the clipboard. You need to use that as part of your whitelist filter in Adblock Plus.
  5. Click the Adblock Plus icon and choose Options.
  6. Click the Add Your Own Filters tab.
  7. Type the following filter into the text box near the top, paste the user name in the appropriate spot, then click the Add Filter button.
