Is there any working Youtube shorts > watch redirect now?

§

Hello,

Youtube must have changed something yesterday and now every script that redirects shorts to watch URLs like https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/439993-youtube-shorts-redirect doesn't work anymore.

Works for me

Can you open a short as a video manually? Turn off any scripts and click these random shorts converted by me to "watch":

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k040c8R-4xc

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qKwcu718GaE

Are you being redirected to "short"?

If you're being redirected from watch to short for these videos it means that your account is probably in some beta test where shorts can't be opened as watch anymore in easy way or maybe at all

If you're not being redirected then try to use another browser to check if the script works there

The /watch links, even when I enter or edit them manually only work for me as long as I'm not logged in. As soon as I'm logged in all short videos, even when manually editing them auto-redirect to /Short.
I have tested this with a completely fresh browser installation as well.

I'm logged in and the script works for me and the links above are not redirecting me to shorts

So yeah, it's probably that:

your account is probably in some beta test where shorts can't be opened as watch anymore in easy way or maybe at all

Also it means that soon or later it would work like that for everyone. As far as I know it's not the first time when youtube does introduces an update not for the all users at once, but in parts. For example: redesign, removed dislikes

Omg this must not be. I didn't do anything. It just switched to this behaviour last night. This is unuseable. Is there nothing I can do? Any ideas?

You can use a different account as long as it works, but again, it's probably would be changed for everyone soon, and the current scripts would not be working until somebody finds a way to turn it back if there is a way

There is some things you can also try. Give me a few minutes

Make sure you don't have any youtube redirect scripts enabled. Below I will give you some different type of links for the one same random short. Try to open them and see if there are any good for you

If some of them gives "Video unavailable" try to open it from here again

Thank you for trying to help me. Unfortunately they all open as Shorts. :(

Per your request, created the following script. Try.

https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/468363-redirect-youtube-shorts-to-watch

You might use this tool to find out the config difference between logged in and logged out.

After you have found the difference, the setting can be fixed to certain value and it might help.

Also, you can reset the YouTube settings to normal. Please make sure you do not have other scripts / extensions / plugins that are forcing the youtube settings. (Just a try. Might not work if it is due to account issue)

Thank you for trying to help but nothing helps to restore the old functionality for me. Konf was probably right when he said that I might be in an unwanted beta-test. Also I found another guy on Reddit with the same problem.

Hello again,

I still haven't found a solution to my problem but I'm using some kind of workaround. I open the Shorts I want to watch in a Incognito Window. There the redirect still works. And to block the stupid Google Consent page I use the addon Consent Blocker.

This unfortunately leads to a new problem. Is there anyway to make Violentmonkey or the redirect script(s) to ONLY work / to only be active when using an Incognito Window or Container Tab? Thanks in advance

Another browser profile

§
Posted: 2023-06-11

How does a different browser profile make an addon and/or script only work in Incognito Mode?

§
Posted: 2023-06-11

Don't use the incognito in another profile then. Isn't a different profile separates an addons settings?

I'm absolutely thankful that you are trying to help me so much but I have no idea what you mean right now, sorry. :x

Are you a firefox user? It seems like the profiles feature doesn't exist there. Install another instance of browser then

§

New profile or old it doesn't matter. Once you login youtube shorts redirect doesn't work anymore!

§

New profile is needed to separate extensions settings and use 2 browser windows with the same extensions but with different settings. This does not affect the youtube behaviour

Yes, I'm using Firefox. But I still don't understand what you are trying to tell me. Maybe there is an misunderstanding.

For me, as soon as I'm logged in, trying to enjoy videos using /watch?v= doesn't work anymore. Youtube instantly tries to bounce me back to /shorts in an neverending loop. Therefore the Redirect Script doesn't work for me.

The only way for me to enjoy videos using /watch?v= is by not being logged in which I can achieve, for example by using Incognito Mode or a Container Tab.

So let's say I need to be logged in to see my Subscriptions. Let's say a new video comes up that interests me. When I click on to video I end up in the loading loop described above. The only alternative for me is to righ-click the video and open it in an Incognito Window or Container Tab. There I can watch it because there I'm not logged in and therefore the Script works.

However, when using an Incognito Window aka not being logged in many things don't work, like leaving a like at a video for example. For being able to leave a like I need to be logged in again. But, you guessed it, since I'm logged in I get the loading loop again.

So normaly when you install an Extenson it asks you if it is allowed to work in Incognito Mode as well. I need the exact opposite now. I want Violentmonkey or the Redirect Script to not work in normal mode but to only work in Incognito Mode. Basicly the exact opposite of its normal behaviour.

Hey, recently I upgraded one of my scripts to make it able to resolves the issue due to account login authorization.
https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/457255-reset-youtube-settings
It now can reset the the settings related to login.
Please try and let me know whether it works for you or not.

Hello,

thank you for still trying to help me.

I just tested your script and, while it resets Youtube's cookie settings as promised, it doesn't do anything for my problem. Youtube, as soon as I'm logged in again, tries to force me to /Shorts. Nothing helps, not deleting cookies, not using a fresh browser installation, not using a different brand of browser, not even using o a different computer. As soon as I log in to my account I'm screwed.

Like someone guessed before it has to be an hidden/secret account flag or some kind of unwanted beta-test I'm in.

To proof it I tested a different account and on it /watch?v= works just fine. No being forced to /Shorts, no endless loop trying to load the /Shorts URL. But using another account also means losing all my subs and I don't know of a way to transfer them.

Here's an update from my side:

I deleted my Youtube account (while keeping my Google account). Then I created a new Youtube account. To my surprise, even with the new Youtube account, videos I tried to watch where still forced to /Shorts.

Left with no other choise I then deleted my whole Google account and created a new one afterwards, including a new YT account. Finally redirect scripts work again and I can once again enjoy /watch?v=

So whatever happened to me, it must have been an internal/secret Google account setting. I really hope it doesn't happen again and I for sure hope it wasn't some kind of beta-test that will later be rolled out forcing /Shorts on all of us.
