Yes, I'm using vanilla html5 UI as a workaround too

The last version fixes this. You will not see the play button but if you left click to play the video the controls will appear.

Enable vanilla html5 player is not a final fix I think...but at least it works
However the video is always muted, even if I added reddit.com to whitelist of autoplay permission
I don't want to change the default autoplay permission for all site to "allow video and audio" just because of reddit, by the way

There's no constant reproduce scenario, please use any sub with lot of video, for example r/aww

Lol sorry forget to mention that, I used new design for like 20 minutes in total so totally forget such thing
