License as free software and put on GitHub?

Thanks for this script :) I made some changes to my copy so that it can handle "various artist" uploads and I fixed a couple of mistakes I noticed... please would you consider adding a free software license and putting the script on GitHub so I can share my changes with you?

Hey! Sure, no problem. If you would only explain to me the whole licensing thing, since I've never dealt with licenses. Which one exactly do I choose when creating the git project?
