You're right, Google seems to have changed quite a lot on their side.
Luckily I already found a workaround, and an update will be rolled out by the end of this weekend.

Many thanks for the fast update. It's working fine for me again now.
It stopped working for me today. An extension I use that allows you to choose the minimum size for images shown in search results also stopped working today, so it must be a change Google is rolling out in stages, or maybe an A/B test.
I'm using Firefox 124.0.2 with Violentmonkey v2.18.0 as the script manager.
If there's any more info I can provide to help you track down why it stopped working, please let me know.
