This is a privacy-oriented script.

What it does:

  • Remove URL redirections added by some social networks (Twitter, Identi.ca, Microca.st, Facebook Mobile);
  • Use HTTPS for some shorteners (bit.ly, t.co, ...).

What it does NOT:

  • Redirections are not removed from Facebook's main website (www.facebook.com) [1].
  • HTTPS is not used for ow.ly, simply cause it does not support HTTPS.

[1] Note regarding Facebook:

Redirection are only removed from Facebook's mobile website (m.facebook.com). They are NOT removed from Facebook's main website (www.facebook.com). This is so users would not get a false sense of privacy when using Facebook's main website. Facebook's main website use multiple tracking techniques, so removing URL redirections alone would not provide a meaningful privacy improvement. If you care about privacy, use Facebook's Mobile website with JavaScript disabled, or even better, do not use Facebook.
