Google - Multiple columns of results, Remove "Sponsored Links", Number results, Auto-load more results, Remove web search dialogues, Open external links in a new tab, self updating and all configurable from a simple user dialogue.

Aha. I solved the issue. I could just delete my comment. But, I hope this helps others. Clearing the cache remedied the situation :)

Google seems to have changed something again.
In the latest version, the lines are at Googles default (short) setting. On a wide monitor this is not good.
