Unfortunately, this doesn't work anymore as YouTube has patched it. I may work on this later, and use a different approach for the Download button. In the meantime, you should use Cobalt. It's ad-free, private, and open source.

Download YouTube videos easily with no ads, no malware, etc.

How it works

This UserScript uses the Cobalt API to download YouTube videos as an MP4 file.

Limitations:

This was hastily written by me so it has some limitations.

  • Doesn't work on Firefox in my testing (YouTube seems to hide the "Download" button which is used by the extension on Firefox)
  • Likely doesn't work with Premium
  • Doesn't work on Shorts

How to use?

You can download a video by installing this UserScript, going on a YouTube video and then clicking the "Download" button. If you can't see this button, it's likely that you either have Premium or aren't using a Chromium-based browser.

You will then have a popup like this on which you can click "Download".
