Not sure what the original script users use it for, but I use it as an alternative temporary split-window solution. Even with gestures, constantly switching and toggling tabs throughout the day is still a bit painful; a small window is faster for pages you don't need to keep open long.
Known partial conflict with Vivaldi's new "Follow Tab" feature: tabs opened from the main tab are forced to open in the follow tab, but windows opened from the follow tab can be freely positioned.
